The International Association of Lions Clubs was organized under the leadership of Melvin Jones in Chicago, Illinois on June 7, 1917. Membership in Lions is open to all people, without regard to sex, religion, or ethnic background. Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with over 45,000 clubs around the world. Nearly 1.3 million Lions members in 206 countries and geographic areas answer the needs that challenge the communities of the world. Lions conduct vision and health screenings, build parks, support eye hospitals, award scholarships, assist youth, provide help in time of disaster and much, much more. Since 1917, Lions clubs have offered people the opportunity to give something back to their communities. From involving members in projects as local as cleaning up an area park or as far-reaching as bringing sight to the world's blind, Lions clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their local community. Lions have also expanded their focus to help meet the ever-increasing needs of our global community. Our programs are continually changing to meet new needs and greater demands, but our mission has never wavered to live up to our motto of "We Serve".

The Cheyenne Lions Club was organized on June 5, 1920 and is Wyoming’s oldest Lions Club.
